An anesthesiologist at work

As you might have guessed, an anesthesiologist works with anesthetics. Before a patient is operated on, you will be the one who examines the patient to find out which type of anesthetic should be used. This information is then given to the doctor. It may also involve administering local, spinal or intravenous anesthetic. You will also take records of the amount and type of anesthetic used. You are also required to monitor and record the condition of the patient before sedation, during sedation and post sedation. You might work with an Anesthesiologist assistant to get your work done.

Anesthesiologists will determine the type of anesthetic required for each patient before they are operated on. You have the sole responsibility in this decision making process. You will usually take into the consideration the medical history of the patient as well as their weight and other factors. To be able to do this, you require a very specific set of skills and training. You will need to be very familiar with the surgical procedure to be performed.

how do i get an answer to my question??? i was to be put in the twilight zone for catarack surgery on my eye. the anesthesiologist put me completely under and my head jerked violently from side to side. i also felt a sharp jerk in my leg. i am highly sensitive to medications and drugs. the eye doctor sad it happened at at point in the procedure that didn’t matter, and he continued on with the surgery talking to me the rest of the time to keep me awake. What went wrong???? i am scheduled to have the same surgery on the other eye next week. what can i do to prevent this from happening again.

You were just sedated. That was all. You were not put completely under and so you may have responded to the pain. The anesthesiologist did not put you completely under. No one who gets cataract surgery gets put completely under. You expectation was inappropriate. The anesthesiologist should have warned you that you were going to be awake.
