Medical school admission is very competitive. Although having an undergraduate degree is not a pre-requisite, almost all applicants accepted into medical school hold a 4 year undergraduate degree. So basically to become a cardiologist, you will need 4 years of undergraduate studies, then 4 years of medical school. You will then do a further 3 years residency program in internal medicine. You will then need to get a license from your state that enables you to practice medicine. You will then be required to do 3 years of residency where you concentrate on cardiology. And finally you will take an exam to become certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

        How much does a cardiologist make

        In the United States, the median cardiologist salary is reported to be $375,000 per year. The figure for the lowest 10th percentile is $251,000 per year and for the highest 10th percentile, the figure is reported to be $550,000. The middle 50% earns from $310,000 to $466,000. The above figures are for invasive cardiologists.

        For non-invasive cardiologist, the median annual salary is reported to be $346,000. The lowest 10th percentile earns about $221,000 and the highest 10th percentile earns about $484,000 per year.

        In Canada, a cardiologist earns a median salary of about CA$232,000 for non-invasive cardiologists. For invasive cardiologists they can expect a median salary of about CA$400,000.
