The training to become a Cardiologist is very similar to other physicians. Since all cardiologists are doctors, they are required to complete medical school. Medical school admission is very competitive. Although having an undergraduate degree is not a pre-requisite, almost all applicants accepted into medical school hold a 4 year undergraduate degree. So basically to become a cardiologist, you will need 4 years of undergraduate studies, then 4 years of medical school. You will then do a further 3 years residency program in internal medicine. You will then need to get a license from your state that enables you to practice medicine. You will then be required to do 3 years of residency where you concentrate on cardiology. And finally you will take an exam to become certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
