An obstetrician is a physician and must therefore attend medical school. If you are making this decision whiles in high school, the first thing you need to do is make sure you take classes in biology, chemistry and physics. This enhances your profile when you go for medical school interview. Make sure you get excellent grades and take part in extracurricular activities.
You should then go to college and obtain an undergraduate degree. Coursework in pre-med may be helpful but not a requirement. Medical school admission requires at least 3 years of college level studies. Although a bachelor’s degree is not a requirement to enter medical school, you will most certainly not get accepted in practice without one. During your undergraduate studies, focus on subjects such as biology, anatomy, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics and genetics.
