Otolaryngologist_First, an undergraduate program must be completed with a bachelor’s degree. These students must, during the pursuit of this degree, pass the Medical College Admission Test (or MCAT). Only after passing this test can students apply to a program that has been accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. These medical programs normally run for about four years. The first two years of the program will include labs and classroom training. The senior years will be spent in clinical practice under the supervision of a licensed medical professional.

The next step is to pass the United States Medical Licensing Examination. Candidates who pass are able to start their residency training. This program will run for another five years. Various things will be done during residency. Clinical rotation will be supervised, and everything will be set up to prepare residents for their futures as licensed practitioners.

After all of this schooling and many years of practice, an oral and written examination will take place. This will allow for the licensure of the prospective otolaryngologist. Yet, getting a license does not mean the training process is over. Just like many other doctors and physicians, otolaryngologists must continue their education in programs to make sure their medical knowledge is completely up to date. Only by continuing education programs can an otolaryngologist maintain his or her license.

Otolaryngologist Salary in Other Countries (Australia, UK and Canada)

An otolaryngologist working in Canada will face much the same salary as one working in the United States. The average annual income of such an otolaryngologist is C$344,000.

Those physicians working in the United King will face a slightly smaller income. Around £74,000 will pay for the annual salary of an otolaryngologist working there. However, this is still a six-figure salary in U.S. dollars.

For once, it is Australia that pays far less for their otolaryngologists. They can expect to make only A$83,000 in this country annually.

            Verdict on Otolaryngologist Salary

The annual otolaryngologist salary , or ear, nose, and throat surgeon, is highly lucrative. While many years of schooling is required, the overall benefits of the career will provide for a luxurious life-style, if preferred. However, otolaryngology is a highly competitive doctrine in the medical field. It may be very difficult to retain a job after all that schooling. Students should be wary before beginning their training based on that information.
