Radiologist Salary

Radiologist Salary

The median average radiologist salary in the United States is reported to be around $365,000 per annum according to data from salary.com. The salary earned by a physician radiologist, just like many other professions, is determined by several factors. These include the location of the job, number of years on the job, type of practice and to a lesser extent gender. The lowest 10 percentile earns about $271,000 and the highest 10 percentile earns about $486,500 per annum on average.

These salary figures do not take into consideration bonuses and other benefits. When these are added, the average salary of a radiologist should be much higher. As with any job, the salary of a radiologist increases with years of experience and it is not uncommon to see earnings of over $600,000 per year for very experienced radiologists. Physicians receive some of the highest salaries in employment therefore it is not a surprise to see such a high radiologist salary.

Job description of a radiologist

A radiologist primarily uses x-rays and other radioactive materials to diagnose diseases and other disorders such as injuries in the human body. They work together with the patient to determine an appropriate course of treatment. There are several fields of expertise in radiology. They use medical imaging techniques to diagnose and treat patients. These imaging techniques include x-rays (CT, radiographs, and fluoroscopy), ultrasound and MRI. A radiologist is essentially a medical doctor and thus performs the duties of a physician as well as their specialization.

Radiologists work with several people under their command or with other physicians in the treatment of a patient. They work with radiologist technician, radiologist assistant and some other staff. When a brain surgeon (see neurosurgeon salary) needs a scan of the brain, he consults with a radiologist to obtain and interpret such scans.

Expected salary of a radiologist

According to data we have come across, a radiologist will earn about $365,000 on average per year. In the United States, the median salary of a radiologist is about $385,000 including bonuses. The middle 50% earns between $326,000 and $451,000. The lowest 10% earns $273,000 on average and the highest 10% earns about $510,000 including bonuses. 2. Sajjad says:

the author is totally confused and mistaken. he does not know the difference between radiologist and radiographer. radiologist is a physician with specialization in the field of medical imaging. radiographer is a technician who performs the imaging studies like x-ray, CT scan or MR. Radiologist interprets the images to find out what is going wrong, and guide the other physicians to treat the patient.
