Most radiology radiographytechnicians have an associate’s degree in radiography. There are a few that get on-the-job training and a very few with bachelor’s degree in radiography. An associate’s degree usually lasts for two years and can be obtained from a community college, vocational/technical institute or some universities. There are one-year certificate programs in radiography. These are more popular with experienced radiology technicians that do not have formal training or other health professionals such as nurses and medical technologists. Those wanting to to work in supervisory, teaching or administrative capacities mostly go after the four-year bachelor’s degree program in radiography. Most radiology technician schools require a high school diploma to get accepted in their program. Courses often consist of a classroom based lesson and practical clinical experience. Subjects taught includes; anatomy, physiology, radiation physics, equipment, radiobiology and imaging procedures. Most states require radiological technicians to be licensed or certified. In most states, this means graduating from an accredited radiography program and passing a certification exams. Non-accredited programs do not provide certification. Also most employers prefer to hire people with certification so getting certified will enhance your chances of getting a job.
